About Zhengzhou


Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan province, is geographically the center city of China. It is renowned as one of the eight historical capitals of China. As far back as 3600 years ago, Zhengzhou was the capital of the Shang Dynasty (1766 BC–1050 BC). During the following dynasties, it served as capital on four occasions. It is considered to be the cradle of China's civilization.
It borders the Yellow River to the north, Mount Songshan to the west, and the Huanghuai Plains to the southeast. Zhengzhou is the transportation conjunction of Henan province, as well as one of the major transportation hubs of China. It was called Zhongzhou in ancient times, which means the transportation hub of ten provinces. It is about 760 km south of Beijing and 480 km east of Xi'an. It only takes about one hour to get to Luoyang and Kaifeng of Henan province from Zhengzhou, both of which are among the eight historical Chinese capitals.
Zhengzhou’s main attractions are related to Zhengzhou’s long history. The top three sightseeing spots are Mount Songshan, with its combination of culture and natural scenery; Henan National Museum, with its expansive collections from throughout Chinese history; and Shaolin Temple, the birthplace of Shaolin Kung Fu.
